And Thanksgiving Day has arrived.
This celebration is as important for the American community as it is the ‘nochebuena‘ for the Hispanic people.
The Thanksgiving tradition involves for many lucky ones, traveling to their hometowns or even for the luckiest, to the countryside of the country, along with their relatives to share a special time together, including the delicious dinner that they will all enjoy. That cold and the early sunset of the upcoming winter is also part of the emotion in this celebration.
The origins of this holiday have become an historic reference. Now, we believe Thanksgiving is a special day to gather, share and be thankful for everything life has delivered to us along the year. The fact that we are still alive and able to participate is more than enough to feel grateful.
Having Black Friday and Cyber Monday next, those are pluses that will give us joy when we can purchase something that we wanted all year long at a very good price. Big discounts occur in every store, product, service and even digital assets as a way of appreciation from the stores… and also a way to clear their inventories but anyways, the true reason always comes up.
For people from other parts of the world, this celebration is rather unknown. I understand Canadians have their own version of Thanksgiving Day that also occur in November. Some Caribbean countries also share this celebration while Germany and Japan have similar named holidays. Countries in Latin America don’t have a specific day or celebration devoted to be Thankful. Most countries, which have deep Christian / Catholic traditions, would give thanks in every religious holiday along the year, every Sunday at the end of Mass and, as explained initially, the day to travel and join with family would happen at ‘Nochebuena’, which is Christmas Eve, and the ‘Día de Navidad’, in December 25th. Hispanic communities living in America will quickly adapt and acquire the Thanksgiving tradition, especially if they will also get the Black Friday deals!
Have my friends a wonderful Thanksgiving Day.
At work, we’ve already been released until Monday so it is always good to have someone to share with. If you don’t, please join a community, call your friends, go to your church, call your relatives wherever they are. I’ve been there and it feels strange seeing everybody happy rushing for dinner at home full of people and yourself watching from a bench. If you have to work, enjoy it. If you are sick, be patient. If you have a family and your table is full of people, do give thanks. You are living the best years of your life.
